A court in the Comoros on Monday (Nov. 28) handed down a life sentence for high treason to ex-president Ahmed Abdallah Sambi. He was accused of embezzling millions of dollars under a passports-sale which was since referred to as "economic citizenship" scandal.
"President Sambi decided not to continue to participate in the trial, because he felt that the Court as it was constituted did not guarantee a fair trial in any way. We had several examples of this already yesterday at the hearing. .. " Jan Fermon, lawyer for Sambi
