[Leadership] Three West African countries, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, have signed a security pact to come to the aid of each other against any rebellion or external aggression, especially by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

[DW] Three West African countries ruled by military juntas have signed a mutual defense pact. Mali and Burkina Faso had previously promised to come to Niger's aid in the event of an attack.

But the Heads of State must also think about economic issues, how to bring the different countries closer together, and how to facilitate trade between our different populations. [RFI] France's Culture Minister on Friday said the suspension of visas for artists from Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso was due to security concerns in light of the recent military coups in those countries and in no way a "boycott".

"We do not currently have a visa service in operation in these countries for security reasons", she explained, denouncing "confusion" and explaining that it was "materially" impossible to "issue visas to come to France".
